Policy and Decision Processes
Motions and UCU decision-making
Motions submitted to General Meetings are the primary method for UCU members to reach collective decisions and direct the work of their branch, Branch Committee, Officers and Negotiators. The common procedure for debating and voting on motions is outlined in the UCU model branch rules (here: https://www.ucuedinburgh.org.uk/model-branch-rules-2016) and depicted in the graphic below.
In 2023, UCU Edinburgh locally amended the rules to adopt a local practice of sending motions to e-vote (rather than voting during branch meetings as other branches do), pending approval by a majority of members present.
