Working Group on the EHRC Statutory Guidance in relation to single-sex spaces (2025)
Chair: Gina Gwenffrewi
The Working Group on the EHRC Statutory Guidance is open to any union-affiliated and non-affiliated staff members at the University of Edinburgh and is working in alliance with a similar working group at the University of Glasgow. Both were launched in October 2025.
Our aims include protecting and supporting trans staff against initiatives that encourage the segregation of trans people and their accompanying harassment and discrimination, including in relation to single-sex spaces. The Working Group understands that the EHRC Statutory Guidance relating to single-sex spaces is likely to be published in November 2025 although delays due to lack of legal clarity and risk assessment may mean the Guidance being delayed into 2026.
