The Student Staff Assembly (SSA) has been brought together to promote staff-student solidarity and joint organising to counter the way our University’s senior management tends to ignore both staff and student voices. Together, as both the labour-force and main source of income for the university, we can push for positive change. This is OUR University, not senior management’s: we can shape it to be the ethical and democratic institution we want. Nearly 1000 students and staff showed up to the first Student-Staff Assembly on 24 September! Students and staff are united and will not be ignored: WE ARE the University.

What to expect:

• Analysis - why Edinburgh University cannot hide behind the excuse of sector-wide problems in higher education

• Q&A between staff and students about the strike, assessments, course closures, cuts, etc.

• Discussion about a collective student strategy of withholding fees in response to the loss of 25% of teaching and contact time with staff

• Visas - ‘Know Your Rights’ training (focusing on students & staff on visas)

• Power-mapping the ‘decision-makers’: who makes the decisions and who is benefiting from the management agenda
