UCU rules & governance
The UCU is governed by its annual UK-wide UCU Congress and associated Sector Conferences (Higher Education and Further Education sectors). The union’s structure, procedures, and conduct are set out in the UK-wide UCU rulebook.
Branch operations are guided by Model Local Rules ratified by UCU Congress. These set out the core local representative structures (Committee and elected Officer positions), as well as how branch meetings should be conducted, including debating and decision-making procedures.
Specific local rules can be proposed and approved at a quorate meeting of branch members. These will apply unless they are democratically changed by the same procedure.
